Council approves designated area for watersports on Thomson River
Longreach Regional Council has granted approval for the Outback Watersports Club Inc. to establish a riverside area for water sports enthusiasts to enjoy with their families.
The Outback Watersports Club has plans to develop the site with shade structures, picnic tables and equipment storage, as well as toilet blocks in the future.
Outback Watersports Club Secretary/Treasurer, Brecken Curtis, said the area would allow local members to utilise and care for the waterway, encourage all age participation in sport and recreation, as well as allow Longreach to hold future water-skiing events and competitions.
“It’s great to see Council supporting watersports enthusiasts on the Thomson. It’s such a great resource and our club is pleased to be allowed to add value to the river.”
The club is hosting Professional Water-skier Brendan Paige on 3-4 March for a coaching clinic. Anyone interested can contact the club on 0437 655 031 for more information.
