Health & Wellbeing Day to focus on community activities
Longreach Regional Council is taking a unique approach to encouraging health and wellbeing in our region, hosting an event to showcase the many ways residents can get active in our community.
The Health & Wellbeing Day will be held this Saturday 3 March in Edkins Park, Longreach. Supporting International Women’s Week, the event will highlight the variety of community activities available to support not only women, but the entire family.
Stalls from traditional health services will be joined by community groups that support active lifestyles – including cultural, sporting and volunteer groups like Longreach School of Dance, Longreach Tennis Club, the State Emergency Service and many more.
A healthy barbeque breakfast will be available for a gold-coin donation; with proceeds going to the Thomson Tigers Football Club.
Phoenix Fitness, Armoury Fitness and Longreach Yoga will be on hand offering children's activities and demonstrations that will get attendees up and moving.
Mayor Ed Warren said participating in community activities is a great way for people to stay healthy.
“When I was health board chair it was something we always focused on – how do we take a holistic approach to building healthier communities” he explained.
“Playing sport, getting creative, volunteering – these are all steps to improve our physical and mental wellbeing.”
The Health & Wellbeing Day runs 8:00am – 11:00am this Saturday 3 March in Edkins Park, Longreach. Council says if successful, it will become an annual event.
