ISISFORD CELEBRATES AUSTRALIA DAY WITH BIG BREAKFAST
Australia Day celebrations in Isisford will start with a hearty breakfast and feature an address by Youngcare founder David Conry and the presentation of Australia Day awards.
Australia Day ambassador David Conry is a disability rights advocate. Mr Conry was named Queensland’s Australian of the Year in 2007 for his work in creating the organisation Youngcare. In ten years, Youngcare has raised over $60 million to develop several residential complexes—with more in construction or planning. These facilities provide dignity, appropriate care and a lifestyle for young people with high care needs.
In addition to delivering an Australia Day address, Mr Conry will assist the Deputy Mayor, Cr Leonie Nunn in presenting the Isisford and Yaraka Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year and Volunteer of the Year awards.
Cr Nunn said she was looking forward to announcing the winners. “It’s such an honour to be asked to recognise Isisford and Yaraka’s best people” she told reporters on Tuesday.
“It’s the people that make these communities strong, so it’s great to recognise that on Australia Day.”
Following the presentations the community will enjoy a cake cutting before moving on to one of the many sporting activities on offer.
The festivities commence 8:30am at the Isisford Multi Purpose Sports Centre.
