NEW COMPETITION HOPES TO CREATE BEAUTIFUL COMMUNITIES
Longreach Regional Council is launching a new competition that encourages residents to beautify our communities.
The Creating Beautiful Communities Competition is seeking to incentivise residents to beautify their yards and gardens by offering prizes to the most improved, best street/laneway and an overall winner in the communities of Longreach, Ilfracombe and Isisford/Yaraka.
Each winner will receive vouchers to the value of $500 which can be redeemed at local businesses.
According to Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Ian Bodill, it is hoped the beautification scheme will have an economic impact as well as a social one.
“This program aligns closely with our Economic Development Strategy” Mr Bodill explained on Tuesday.
“Livability is one of the three pillars of the strategy and this competition is one way we’re hoping to improve the livability of our communities.”
In addition to encouraging residents to take action, Council is making some improvements of its own, sending crews to tidy up laneways and work on public areas that need attention.
“We’re doing our part to get the whole thing started” said Mr. Bodill. “We can’t expect our residents to get involved if we’re not prepared to pull up our sleeves as well.”
The competition runs from now until 30 September, with winners announced the following week. For more information contact Council on (07) 4658 4111 or via email: email@example.com.
