Longreach Library
The Longreach Regional Council Library houses approximately 7,200 items and exchanges approximately 650 items every three months to ensure a constant flow of new and interesting materials.
The Library offers a wide range of items from junior fiction through to adult large print fiction, non-fiction, reference, paper backs and magazines. For those who enjoy listening to a book whilst driving or doing the housework, gardening etc, there's a great selection of audio tapes and CDs for all ages.
Adult literacy, items in other languages, music CD's, games, cassettes and videos for the toddlers through to adults is also available. If you require specific items or further information that is not held in the library requests to the State Library and Inter-library loans may be arranged. Simply ask the library staff for assistance for this free service.
The Longreach Regional Council Library is a branch library for the Bureau of Statistics and holds microfiche indexes on Queensland Births, Deaths and Marriages. Our collection also includes our local newspaper The Longreach Leader which dates from 1923.

Internet Access
Our six public access computers each have Microsoft Office and Internet facilities with content filtering. Charges apply for usage, printing and photocopying.
How to Join
Membership is free to all adults/children that reside within the shire area and are enrolled on the State Electoral Roll. Completion of a membership form is required to obtain a library card. For residents from outside the region a membership fee is applied and refunded when membership is withdrawn. Adult borrowers are entitled to 5 items and children 3 items per visit. If items cannot be returned by the 3 weeks due date, simply contact the Library to arrange for an extended borrowing period.
On-Line Databases
The State Library of Queensland offers free access to various databases containing authoritative subscription materials including the Australia/New Zealand Reference Centre (offering thousands of journal articles); Health & Wellness Resource Centre (up to date, authoritative, full text health information from journals and reference titles); Proquest (a science journal database); Newsbank (access to 230 full-text Australian, American and English newspapers); Literature Resource Centre (up to date literary information from journals and reference titles); Encyclopedia Britannica Online; and Tumble Books (e-books for kids - read or listen to story books on-line, write a book review or play games). To access simply use your library card!
Yourtutor
Longreach Regional Council Library in partnership with the State Library of Queensland through Tutoring Australasia has recently joined an exciting, new, free internet service that connects you to expert live tutors in Maths, Science, English and assignment research for years 4 through 12 and beyond. This is available from 4pm to 8pm Monday to Friday. You will need a valid Library card to access this service. Check it out at www.yourtutor.com.au.
