Longreach Residential College

YOUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME

The Residential College has seven day boarding for up to 30 students attending either primary or secondary schools in Longreach. The college's mission is to provide quality care, in a supportive family environment, based  on mutual respect and trust and to give all residents regardless of race, religion and disability, whose homes are remote, the opportunity to access the primary or secondary education of their choice. ACCOMMODATION
The residential facilities include fully air conditioned dormitories. Dormitories have layout of single bunk style rooms with bed, desk, chair, cupboard, fan, mirror and lino floor coverings. 

STUDENT CARE
Students are in the care of College Managers who reside at the College seven days a week. The Managers are in close communication with the schools and a supervised homework period occurs daily. Computers with controlled internet access, scanner and printers are provided to assist students with homework, study and assignments.
The College has its own bus which is used to transport students to and from school each day. The bus is also used for transporting students to various activities in which they may participate. 

KitchenFACITILIES
A modern kitchen adjoins the spacious dining room.  The large lounge room doubles as a recreation room and houses the computers, pool table, television, VCR and DVD equipment. A visitor's, games/craft room is available for the convenience of all students.  A new indoor gymnasium has been setup for students. A study room adjoins the outdoor recreation area. A telephone is installed for students use only and the line operates both Homelink and 1800 REVERSE facilities. A sewing machine is available for use by home economics students. A large and well equipped laundry is on-site.  

GymnasiumSPORTING AND RECREATION FACILITIES
The College offers a wide range of sporting and recreational facilities for students to enjoy. Including:

 

  • tennis/netball court
  • handball/basketball area
  • table tennis and pool tables
  • gymnasium equipment
  • playground equipment
  • football, soccer, rugby, cricket and badminton equipment
  • television, VCR and DVD player
  • computer games
  • various board games, jigsaws, etc

Use is also made of the local Olympic sized swimming pool and students are encouraged to become members of the Council Library.

LONGREACH RESIDENTIAL COLLEGE ADVISORY COMMITTEE
In early 2007 an Advisory Committee was formed. This Committee has powers to make recommendations to Council with respect to:-
i) the development, amendment and adoption of   policies for the College; and
ii) the future upgrade and development of hostel facilities
