Tourism and Events Services
The Longreach Regional Council operates a Tourism and Events department covering tourism activites and events in the region. The team is made up of the Tourism Team Leader who manages the development of tourism in the shire as well as working with locals and operators to market Longreach as a destination for travelers. The position currently acts as secretary for the Longreach Tourism Association and also co-ordinates advertising, both tourism and shire related for the Longreach Regional Council. The Events/Publicity Officer looks after the bookings of the rooms within the Civic Centre and promoting Longreach and the Civic Centre as a place to hold conferences/meetings etc. This role also organizes and coordinates Council sponsored events, eg. Australia Day presentations, Easter In The Outback, Christmas Street Party and Carols etc. The Publicity role incorporates council publicity, looking after Council Briefs in the Leader, coordinating the in-house staff newsletter and writing media releases on Council events and meetings. The role of Powerhouse Museum Officer also falls under the Tourism and Events team. This person coordinates the day to day running of the Powerhouse Museum. Providing curatorial duties as well as liaising with the Team Leader on development of the Museum and functions.
The Visitor Information Centre Officer is there to provide information to Visitors as well as liaise with the Team Leader on display layouts, visitor enquiries and facilities that are available. To find out more about the Longreach Region and it's attractions visit the Information Centre website.
The team also employs a Tourism Trainee, when available. The Tourism Trainee is placed in both the Visitor Information Centre to augment the skills learned during their traineeship.
