Mitchell Murphy

Mitchell Murphy joins Council having held senior executive leadership roles in professional services; media; and sport. Most recently he was Commercial and Marketing Director at Gadens – one of Australia’s most respected law firms. Gadens are on the Queensland Government legal panel and also act for several large councils in the Sunshine State.

A former Executive Director (Publishing) of the peak industry body for media in Australia, Mitchell is adept at policy formulation. His extensive media experience includes terms as Editor-In-Chief of three daily newspapers in Queensland and as founding Managing Editor of the international award-winning Brisbane Times online news website. Further, he is a Former Editor-In-Chief of the Illawarra Mercury and Fairfax Media’s national community newspapers division.

Mitchell has also served as Chief Executive Officer of two national sporting franchises, Newcastle Jets (A-League), and the Brisbane Bullets (National Basketball League) – successfully guiding the club back into the NBL in 2016 after an absence of eight years from the competition.

Mitchell holds an Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) from RMIT, is a graduate of the Asian Intensive School for Advanced Management (AISAM) program, is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD), and is a long-serving member of the Harvard Business Review Advisory Council.

He is married to Sue-ellen and has two children, Hannah and Samuel.

Elizabeth West

Elizabeth is a seasoned executive with a strong government, commercial and infrastructure background. Her experience spans both the public and private sector and she has a strong track record in successfully managing large teams in the delivery of efficient and effective services.

Elizabeth joins Council direct from her previous role as Manager of the Total Solutions business unit within Local Government Association of Queensland. There she led transformation and significant growth in delivery of professional consultancy services and training to Queensland Councils. Key service areas included industrial relations and human resources, strategic and financial planning and management, internal audit, governance, and recruitment.

Elizabeth has also held a range of senior roles in the Queensland Government focussed on major infrastructure and mining projects and the education sector. At different times she represented both Queensland Treasury and the Department of State Development in Queensland energy strategy development across the public sector.

Her many qualifications include a Bachelor of Laws (Honours), a Bachelor of Commerce and she is also a Chartered Accountant. Elizabeth is also District Commissioner for Scouts Association of Queensland Central West District.

Elizabeth looks forward to bringing her expertise to bear in service to our region.

Director of Infrastructure Services

Roger Naidoo

Roger Naidoo commenced duties as the Director of Infrastructure Services at Longreach Regional Council on 23 May 2016. He has over 25 years experience in civil construction and local government in Australia and abroad. Roger has managed multi-million dollar civil construction projects while working for large private construction companies and has spent the last 17 years in a local government environment.

His Local Government experience comes from holding various management roles in Queensland, Western Australia, and Overseas.

Roger has a Bachelor’s Degree in Technology: Civil Engineering, Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering and a Diploma in Civil Engineering.

Roger is married to Vimla and has two daughters, Lee-Anne and Michaela.

DCCS Lisa Young

Director of Community and Cultural Services

Lisa Young

Lisa brings valuable Local Government and Public Sector experience to the role of Director of Community and Cultural Services. She joins Council having previously served as a Senior Consultant for the Mead Perry Group – consulting to local governments state-wide in a variety of areas including Governance, Human Resources, Community Services, Tourism, and Finance.

She has prior experience living and working in Western Queensland, having previously held senior positions at Barcoo Shire Council and in Agribusiness for the National Australia Bank.

Her qualifications are in Management and Leadership, Human Resources, and Business – and she is currently undertaking further study in Law and Psychology. Lisa will be based in Longreach, with husband Marc and son Bobby.
