Public Facilities

The Longreach region has many quality recreation facilities for locals and visitors to enjoy. Explore nature at the Iningai Reserve, have a picnic at one of the well maintained parks and gardens, or relax at a pool or spa. Follow the links below for more information.

Hire of Council Facilities

Council has a large range of quality venues, facilities and equipment for hire across the region. Whether you are planning a major conference or sporting event, or want to hold a small fundraising morning tea, there is something to suit your needs.

If your event involves serving alcohol, you may be required to complete a form for endorsement.

Parks and Gardens


Edkins Park
Location - Corner of Landsborough Highway and Galah Street, Longreach
Edkins park has a covered BBQ facility with 2 children's playgrounds and Male/female/disabled toilets. Edkins Park also has the site of The Cenotaph and the Longreach ANZAC service is held here each year.

Lioness Park
Location – corner Sparrow and Cassowary Streets, Longreach
Lioness Park has a BBQ, children's playground area and male/female/disabled toilets. This park is entirely fenced

Rotary Park
Location - on the Landsborough Highway on the Eastern entrance to town, Longreach
It has covered BBQ area, and picnic shelter.

Apex (Riverside) Park
Location - Thomson River approximately 5 kilometres west of Longreach.
This park offers accommodation at $5.00/night to self contained vans, which is payable at the Visitor Information Centre.  Apex Riverside Park is the site of the Annual Longreach Yellowbelly Classic Fishing Competition.

Skate Park
Location - at the end of Eagle Street in Longreach, heading south towards Jundah.
The skate park is a covered and surround by a lovely green lawn and gardens. This is where you can ride your skate board, BMX Bike or Roller Blades. The skate park is a popular social area for local youth.


Ilfracombe Memorial Park
Location - in the centre of town, on the Landsborough highway.
This attractive park has access to a 20m swimming pool and heated mineral spa. Shade structures are situated throughout and there are Male/female/disabled toilets/showers. Enjoy a leisurely soak and take advantage of the playground equipment and free barbeque facilities. The park is also home to the Rotunda, an elegant centrepiece erected in memory of Ilfracombe's war heroes.


The Isisford Park
Location - in St Helena Street, beside Council's branch office
This well-maintained park is equipped with toilets, showers and a bbq, and there is a children's playground nearby.


The Yaraka Park
Location - Jarley Street
The Yaraka Park is an attractive lawned area, complete with tennis courts, a playground, BBQ and picnic shelter and toilets. It also close to the town hall, and pool complex. A great place to stop and relax.

Iningai Nature Park

Named after the traditional owners who lived along the Thomson River, Iningai Nature Park is a peaceful area to explore and experience the native flora and fauna of Longreach. Download the Iningai Nature Reserve flyer for more information and maps of walking trails.

Swimming Pools

Longreach Regional Council maintains swimming pools throughout the region. The facilities are popular with locals and visitors alike.

All pools will be closed on Christmas Day.

Longreach Memorial Pool & Aquatic Centre

A fun place for children and adults, the pool and aquatic centre is located at 81 Eagle Street. It includes a 50 metre pool, playground, children's waterpark, and a heated 25 metre pool. For more information call (07) 4658 1745ngreach Aquatic Centre will close for a two week Mid-Winter break from 27 June through 12 July inclusive.

Ilfracombe Pool & Heated Artesian Spa

This facility sits beside a lovely park area and is found in the centre of town beside the Landsborough highway, artfully hidden behind trees and shrubs. For more information  call (07) 4658 4111. 

PLEASE NOTE: The Ilfracombe Pool will be closed from 23 December to 3 January.

Isisford Pool

The Isisford pool is situated at the sporting complex, where there is a tennis court, skate park, and handy BBQ area. For more information call (07) 4658 8900.


Monday to Sunday - 10:00am to 1:00pm and 3:00pm to 6:00pm

Yaraka Pool

The Yaraka pool is behind the town hall and close to an attractive park with a range of handy amenities. For more information call (07) 4658 8900

Civic & Cultural Centre

This large, modern Centre in the heart of Longreach has everything you need to create a successful event. It is fully air conditioned and has two breakout rooms, a mezzanine and courtyard. There is also a fully equipped kitchen and bar, and items for hire within the Centre include a PA system, data projector, and portable stage.

Water Tower Lights Calendar 

Out the front of the Longreach Civic Centre is our water tower which lights up our community.  The lights on top of the water tower can be changed by Council or the community (by request) to promote or raise awareness for events or campaigns.  

To make an application for the lights to be changed please complete the 'Water Tower Lights Booking Form'.  Please note, Council will assess your application against an eligibility criteria before approving the application and there may be times the lights have already been reserved by Council for significant events or awareness campaigns.  The lights may change without notice at Council's discretion, where there are no bookings for the lights the colours of white only will be displayed.

Longreach Showgrounds

Located on the corner of Sandpiper and Kite Streets, the Longreach Showgrounds is an attractive area that lends itself to a wide variety of functions and events. Click here for a map of the grounds.
