Wet weather forces partial changes to Australia Day programme in region

Back

Wet weather has forced Longreach Regional Council to make partial changes to Australia Day celebrations in the region.

Award ceremonies in the region have been cancelled, with some participants unable to travel, and will instead be announced online at 9:00am on the day. Recipients will be invited to collect their award in-person at a future Council meeting. A planned cricket match in Ilfracombe and a colour run in Isisford has also been cancelled, but all other events will be proceeding.

Isisford will host a community breakfast at the new time of 8:30am, and Ilfracombe will host it’s community barbeque and activities starting at 5:00pm on the deck at the Recreation Centre. Activities at the Longreach Aquatic Centre will also be going ahead mostly as planned, with activities commencing at 10:00am including a free sausage sizzle for lunch.

There will still be free pool entry across the region and senior’s lunches in Longreach and Ilfracombe will also go ahead as planned.

Yaraka was set to host its celebrations this Saturday 29 January – with free pool entry and a community dinner – those events will currently proceed as planned.
