Public forum to explore better outcomes for people with disabilities

The meeting aims to bring together community members and stakeholders interested in taking a leading role in the creation of such a facility. It follows a request at Council’s Community Consultation Forums in October.

Director of Community and Cultural Services, David Perry, says Council is hoping for a community led solution.

“This request has come directly from our community, so it’s only right that any result be community driven. We’re having the forum to bring together any interested parties and help facilitate an outcome that is community based.

“Council is certainly not in a position to move into the disability services sector, but we do want to help as much as we can.”

The Mayor, Cr Ed Warren, says there are a wide range of service providers in the region who might be able to help.

“We’re spoilt for choice in Longreach when it comes to health services – but for people with disabilities the options are more limited. I’d like to think that we can work out a better outcome for these valued members of our community and their families.”

Any interested parties are encouraged to attend the forum, which will take place in the Thomson-Redford Room, Longreach Civic Centre, at 7pm on Monday 11 February.
