Our Vision

The communities of the Longreach Region, with their individual identities and a proud heritage, will be characterised by their cohesive and inclusive nature, making the region a location of choice for business investment and outback living.

Reaching a population of 5,500 by 2027, the Longreach Region will be characterised by strong communities and a vibrant economy driven by skills and innovation in a diversity of traditional and new industries.

Our Mission

Council’s Mission is to deliver decisive leadership in making locally-responsive, informed and responsible decisions, providing the highest-quality services and facilities to all communities of the Longreach Region.

Our Eight Core Values

Strategic Documents

The work of Council is also guided by a variety of strategies, plans, and other documents. The most important ones are available here in their current version.

Corporate Plan

In Queensland, Local Government Authorities are required to prepare a Corporate Plan in accordance with the Local Government Act 2009 and Local Government Regulations 2012. The Corporate Plan is the highest-level overarching strategic document that guides the work of Council.

It is always prepared in consultation with the community and can be thought of as the community’s plan for Council.

The Corporate Plan is the guiding document informing the preparation and delivery of Council’s Annual Operational Plan and Budget. The current Corporate Plan was adopted in 2017 following widespread consultation with the community.

Annual Operational Plan

The Longreach Regional Council Annual Operational Plan contains the targets and goals of Council for a twelve month period, and is a tool to be used by staff in setting their key performance indicators, budgetary requirements, and is referenced in the preparation of their monthly reports to Council.

Each year during the Annual Financial Budget adoption, the strategies from the Corporate Plan are considered for the twelve months ahead, along with Council’s commitments through its previously adopted decisions and resolutions for that period, and in line with legislative requirements. The items committed to are included in the Annual Operational Plan, and are allocated the necessary funds and resources during the budget process to ensure the successful delivery of these services throughout the year.

Annual Report

Our 2018/19 Annual Report describes Council’s performance against the targets set out in the 2018/2019 Annual Operational Plan.

Economic Development Plan

Council adopted our Economic Development Strategy, Outback Prosperity 2021, following public consultation in 2016.

Longreach Regional Council Planning Scheme

Our Planning Scheme has been prepared in accordance with the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 as a framework for managing development in a way that advances the purpose of the Act.

Water Conservation and Drought Management Plan

The purpose of Longreach Regional Council’s Water Conservation and Drought Management Plan is to provide a management strategy of appropriate responses to drought conditions in the event available water is drastically reduced.

To ensure an adequate water supply for the Council’s water users, the Water Conservation & Drought Management Plan establishes the criteria for action at each stage of water supply reduction.

Water Security Study

Commissioned in 2017, the purpose of this report is to identify options that will:

  1. Increase the availability of potable water for domestic use in the short and medium term; and,
  2. Secure the long term water security of each town.

Drinking Water Quality Management Plan

This plan has been developed in accordance with the requirements of Section 93(3) of the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008. The DWQMP addresses the content requirement of the Queensland Drinking Water Quality Management Plan Guideline (DERM 2010).

It contains or references all of the policies, procedures, and registers that are required to maintain drinking water quality for the four drinking water supply schemes operated by Council.
