Libraries in the Longreach Region

The Council's public libraries in Longreach, Ilfracombe and Isisford have a great selection of books and e-resources for all ages and interests. Membership is free for locals and visitors with friendly staff to assist with requesting or specialised information.

 

Rural Libraries Queensland

Longreach Regional Council is a participant in Rural Libraries Queensland – a collaboration between local councils and the State Library of Queensland. Members can request items, renew loans and access online resources. Library members can download from home their choice of eAudiobooks, free Music, eBooks, Magazines and Tumblebooks. Longreach Library

 

The Longreach Library provides residents with access to a wide range of resources to entertain, inform and assist in daily living, with collections for adults, youth and children. Resources are available in a variety of formats including books, large print books, magazines, DVDs and audio books suitable for all age groups. Language and literacy materials along with book club sets may be requested from State Library. Electronic resources such as eBooks, downloadable audio books, information databases and music are all available to RLQ members via the online catalogue.

 

The Internet is available on public access computers with minimal charges for computer usage, printing and photocopying. Microfiche indexes on Queensland Births, Deaths and Marriages can be viewed and the collection also includes an archive of the local newspaper the Longreach Leader which dates from 1923. Free access is provided to library members to Library PressDisplay – an online newspaper portal that offers over 200 newspapers from 70 countries around the world, in 37 languages. The Longreach Library is the meeting place for Family Histories every 2nd Saturday morning from 10.00am-12.00pm.

Books in languages other than English may be requested for loan through the State Library of Queensland.

Ilfracombe Library

 

The Ilfracombe Library is located within the local Post Office building and is open Monday to Friday.  Computers with Internet Access are available and there is a gift shop, children's area and a wide range of books, including talking books, for all ages.  Australia Post products and services are also available.

Monday to Friday            9.00am – 12.00pm and 2.00pm – 4.45pm

Closed on weekends and Public Holidays.

 

 

Isisford Library

 

The Isisford Library is well stocked with a large range of books and DVDs.  There is a computer with internet access, and a cosy space where children can relax and read.

To obtain a library card, fill out and return a membership form.  Membership is free and available to both locals and visitors.  Identification is required.
