Handy tips for submitting your application

Our selection panels review applications frequently, and we genuinely want to see you at your best. These tips are here to help your application shine and give you the strongest chance of being shortlisted. Your cover letter and resume are often the first glimpse we have of you. Presenting them clearly helps your strengths stand out from the very start.

General

  • Be yourself – we want to get to know YOU, not just your resume.
  • Tailor it – a little effort to align with the role goes a long way.
  • Keep it clear – simple, well‑laid‑out applications are easier to follow.
  • Show your impact – tell us what you’ve achieved, not just your job title.
  • Check before you submit – spelling, dates and details matter.
  • No perfection needed – apply if you’re keen and capable, not flawless.

Cover letter

  • Make it human – write like you’re talking to us, not performing.
  • Tell us why – what about this role or our organisation caught your eye?
  • Use the position description – it’s your best guide for what to highlight.
  • Connect the dots – show how your experience meets what the role needs.
  • Keep it focused – one page is plenty.
  • Avoid repetition – your resume has the facts, and your cover letter tells the story.
  • Finish strong – a confident, genuine close goes a long way.

Resume

  • Be clear and honest – say what you’ve done and when you did it.
  • Include dates – list start and end timeframes for every role (month/year).
  • Explain gaps – a brief note builds understanding and avoids assumptions.
  • Highlight impact – focus on outcomes, not just responsibilities.
  • Match the role – tailor your resume to the position description.
  • Get specific – examples answer questions better than broad statements.
  • Choose referees thoughtfully – include people who know your work well.
  • Let them know – ask referees before listing them so they’re prepared.
  • Check the basics – names, titles, dates and contact details should all line up.
