Approved Inspection Program - Local Government Act 2009

Notice is hereby given that Longreach Regional Council has, by resolution dated 17 September 2026, approved a Selective Inspection Program pursuant to section 134 of the Local Government Act 2009.

Purpose of the Inspection Program

The purpose of the Inspection Program is to ascertain compliance with the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018, the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008 and other relevant Local Government Acts by inspecting sewerage and drainage infrastructure connected to Council's sewerage network, including to:

a)            identify defective private sewer infrastructure and illegal connections;

b)            identify stormwater inflow and infiltration into the sewerage system;

c)            assess impacts on Council's sewerage infrastructure;

d)            assess potential environmental and public health risks arising from defective sewer infrastructure; and

e)            inform future compliance, rectification, maintenance and asset management programs undertaken by Council.

Type of Inspection Program

The Inspection Program is a selective inspection program and applies to properties that:

a.            are located within the townships of Isisford and Ilfracombe; and

b.            are connected, or capable of being connected, to Council's sewerage network.

The properties have been selected on the basis that the inspections are required to assess sewer infrastructure condition, identify stormwater inflow and infiltration, evaluate network performance and capacity, and determine potential environmental and public health risks associated with sewerage services within those townships.

Program Commencement

The Inspection Program will commence on 19 October 2026.

Program Duration

The Inspection Program will operate from 19 October 2026 until 19 January 2027, being a period not exceeding three months.

Entry to Land

Authorised persons appointed by Longreach Regional Council may enter properties included within the Inspection Program without the permission of the occupier at any reasonable time of the day or night to conduct inspections pursuant to sections 133 and 134 of the Local Government Act 2009 for the purposes stated above.

Prior to entry, Council will give, or make reasonable attempts to give, notice of entry to occupiers in accordance with legislative requirements.
